Who Is Kai Widdrington?
Kai Widdrington is one of the best-known male professional dancers associated with British television. Long before becoming a familiar face on Strictly Come Dancing, he had already established himself through competitive Latin and ballroom dancing.
He was born in Southampton, England, into a highly sporting family. His father, Tommy Widdrington, had a professional football career, while his younger brother Theo also became a professional footballer. BBC Sport and ITV have both highlighted the family’s unusual combination of football and dance careers.
Kai himself could have followed the football route. As a youngster, he was part of Southampton’s academy system. However, at around 12 years old, he decided that dancing was the career he wanted to pursue. ITV reported that he chose dance rather than taking up a contract with Southampton.
That decision proved significant. Within a few years, he was competing at a very high level internationally.
How Old Is Kai Widdrington?
Kai Widdrington Age was born on 23 August 1995, making him 31 years old in 2026.
His birthplace is Southampton, on England’s south coast. His biography records that he became the Junior World Latin American champion in 2010, while still in his teens.
His achievements at such a young age helped open the door to television appearances and a professional career that eventually took him from British competitions to Irish television and then Strictly Come Dancing.
How Tall Is Kai Widdrington?
Kai Widdrington height is approximately 6 feet 2 inches, or 1.88 metres.
That figure is widely cited in biographies and was also referenced by The Independent when discussing his 2026 Strictly partnership with Australian singer Delta Goodrem.
His height makes him one of Strictly’s taller professional dancers, which can influence celebrity pairings because producers typically consider physical compatibility when putting dance couples together.
Kai Widdrington Early Dancing Career
Kai’s competitive career developed rapidly after he chose dancing instead of football.
In 2010, he became the Junior World Latin American champion. Two years later, he gained a much larger public audience by appearing on the sixth series of Britain’s Got Talent.
Performing with dance partner Natalia Jeved, Kai progressed all the way to the 2012 Britain’s Got Talent final. ITV reported at the time that the Southampton dancers had advanced through the semi-final after receiving the judges’ support.
The appearance gave Kai valuable national television exposure years before his Strictly debut.
Dancing with the Stars Ireland
Another major career step came when Widdrington joined the professional line-up of Ireland’s Dancing with the Stars in 2017.
He remained associated with the Irish competition through 2020 and formed partnerships with several celebrities.
One of his strongest seasons came in 2018, when he danced with former camogie player Anna Geary. They reached the final and finished as joint runners-up. RTÉ records that Geary and Widdrington scored an impressive 88 out of 90 from the judges in the final.
In 2020, he reached another final with Gráinne Gallanagh, again finishing among the runners-up.
His work in Ireland helped establish his television credentials before one of the biggest opportunities of his career arrived.
Kai Widdrington on Strictly Come Dancing
In July 2021, Kai Widdrington was announced as a new professional dancer on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking when the appointment was revealed, Kai described joining Strictly as a childhood dream, having watched the programme since its early years.
AJ Odudu and the 2021 Final
Kai made an immediate impression during his first season when he was paired with presenter AJ Odudu.
The pair progressed all the way to the 2021 final and had become serious contenders for the Glitterball Trophy. Unfortunately, Odudu suffered a serious ankle injury shortly before the final.
She and Kai were forced to withdraw after the injury left her unable to perform.
Despite the disappointing ending, the partnership helped establish Kai as one of the show’s most recognisable professionals.
Later Strictly Partners
Widdrington went on to dance with celebrities including Kaye Adams, Angela Rippon and Vicky Pattison.
In the 2025 series, Kai was paired with Pattison, with the couple remaining in the competition until November.
For Strictly Come Dancing 2026, Kai was paired with Australian singer Delta Goodrem. The partnership made a strong early impression: their salsa earned 33 points in October, taking them to the top of the leaderboard for the second consecutive week.
Goodrem subsequently missed a live show because of a rib injury and received a bye with Kai into the following week.
Does Kai Widdrington Have a Wife?
No credible public information indicates that Kai Widdrington is married, so he does not have a publicly confirmed wife as of October 2026.
The confusion largely comes from widespread interest in his relationships with fellow dancers and his current girlfriend.
Kai previously dated Strictly professional Nadiya Bychkova. Their relationship began in 2022, but the couple separated in 2024. Bychkova later confirmed that they continued to work together professionally but were no longer friends following the break-up.
Who Is Kai Widdrington Girlfriend?
Kai Widdrington has more recently been linked to Chloe Wells.
In 2025, Kai discussed beginning a happier new chapter in his personal life and referred to Wells as his “other half.” The Standard reported that the pair had met near his west London home and that Kai had also shared their relationship publicly on social media.
Reports continuing into the 2026 Strictly season have described Chloe Wells as Kai’s girlfriend. There has, however, been no credible public announcement of a marriage or engagement.
Therefore, articles describing Chloe as Kai Widdrington wife should be treated cautiously unless the couple themselves announce a marriage.
Kai Widdrington Net Worth
Kai Widdrington net worth is not publicly known.
Various celebrity-finance websites publish estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to several million dollars, but these calculations are not based on publicly available accounts or confirmed financial disclosures. They should therefore not be presented as fact.
A more accurate description is that Kai earns income from several professional activities, including:
- Television work such as Strictly Come Dancing
- Professional dance performances
- Live theatre tours
- Personal appearances
- Choreography and dance-related projects
- Commercial partnerships where applicable
The BBC does not publish a verified individual salary or contract figure for Kai. In one freedom-of-information case concerning Strictly costs, the BBC declined to provide requested salary and contract details on the basis of its journalistic, artistic and literary exemption.
For that reason, Kai Widdrington net worth should currently be regarded as undisclosed rather than assigning him an unsupported number.
Kai Widdrington’s Family
Kai comes from a family with a particularly strong sporting background.
His father, Tommy Widdrington, spent many years as a professional footballer and later moved into football management. His brother Theo Widdrington also became a professional midfielder.
The interesting contrast is that Kai was talented enough at football to be part of Southampton’s academy but ultimately chose ballroom dancing.
That decision gave the Widdrington family careers across two very different competitive worlds: professional football and professional dance.
Kai Widdrington’s Live Tours
Kai’s career now extends well beyond television.
He has increasingly built his own theatre work, using live productions to combine ballroom, Latin and other dance styles.
His official tour information confirms another major production, Kai – My Revolution, for 2027. The show is described as a personal journey through his career, including his world championship success, television experiences and important moments away from the dance floor.
The 2027 production follows his theatre shows during 2025 and 2026 and indicates how his career has expanded from being primarily a television professional to becoming a headline touring performer.
Why Is Kai Widdrington Famous?
Kai Widdrington’s popularity comes from a combination of competitive achievement and mainstream television exposure.
He was already a world-level junior dancer before appearing on television. Britain’s Got Talent introduced him to a wider British audience, Dancing with the Stars developed his experience as a professional celebrity partner, and Strictly Come Dancing turned him into a widely recognised television personality.
His career milestones include being a Junior World Latin American champion, reaching the Britain’s Got Talent final, becoming a Dancing with the Stars Ireland finalist and reaching the Strictly final during his first BBC series.
That combination separates him from someone who became famous solely through reality television: dance competition was already his profession long before Strictly.
